The Fall Protection Company on Bainbridge Island

 This was special.

I interviewed for a sales position that paid around $30K/year.  The company, Gravitec Systems, called pretty quickly after I sent a resume and cover letter, and arranged an interview for several days later.

I arrived on time and sat in a conference room with the hiring manager and their top sales

person.

They trained their sales employees on their fall protection and industrial safety equipment and consulting services. They even has NASA as a client.

I’m no fool, but the interview went well.  I was questioned about customer service programs I had managed, and they took furious notes as I described a “surprise and delight” service program I had ran for years.  Was there for almost two hours and before departing, I was asked if I could be flexible on my second interview scheduling as the Canadian owner of the company would be down and like to meet me.

Several days later I called to stay in touch and left a message.  Several days after that, the hiring manager called and my wife took the call.  He told her in a tone that she described as completely not being honest and forthright and being very nervous, that he would like to leave me a message that my services would not be needed, and as my wife said she will have me call him so he could explain, he just hung up.

I was all but hired.  It was such bullshit.  I’ll probably never prove age discrimination against them, but I watched their website for signs of my ideas being promoted.  They also reran their employment ad. The hiring manager was embarrassed.  Screw that. I was discriminated against because of my age.  They were all younger in there.
